Sheela's Two Homes

Sheela is a happy child growing up in Sukkur, Sind. She plays with her friends and stitches little dresses for her dolls. She lives with her uncle, whom she lovingly calls Baba, just across the road from her own parents. Life feels safe and peaceful, and the big changes happening around her don’t seem to matter—until Partition arrives.

The story slowly shows what childhood was like in those times, very different from the world children know today. This book comes from an animation film by Nina Sabnani and is based on her mother’s real life. The illustrations use pieces of cloth and embroidery, helping tell a tender story of growing up between two countries, two homes, and two fathers.
